Lekshmy Hirandas, AICP is a transportation planner and urban designer with expertise in active transportation, road safety, and transportation equity. She holds a Master of City Planning from the University of California, Berkeley, and a Master of Urban Design from the School of Planning & Architecture, New Delhi. At Kittelson & Associates, Lekshmy works on projects focused on pedestrian and bicycle safety, transit planning, and data-driven decision-making for multimodal transportation systems. Her experience includes analyzing speed trends for safety studies, evaluating transportation equity in regional planning, and developing data visualization tools to support decision-making. She has contributed to projects for Oregon Metro, the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), and local agencies nationwide. Prior to Kittelson, Lekshmy worked with Safe Transportation and Research Education Center (SafeTREC) at the University of California, Berkeley and was also part of the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety, where she contributed to street redesign projects that improved safety outcomes in Mumbai. She has published research on pedestrian and bicyclist safety, and her work has been recognized by the American Planning Association and other professional organizations.
Lekshmy is passionate about creating equitable, accessible, and sustainable transportation systems that prioritize vulnerable road users. She is an active member of the American Planning Association and WTS Portland Chapter.
